Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
For fun, or more serious thinking?
Either way ... you're only keeping the gold until you want to buy something with it. |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
I say it depends on your Gold to 50 cal ratio. hehe
If you won't miss the two or three oz of gold, then sure, why not? |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
The uses of a .50 cal in urban areas is overkill. Heck a 308 would prolly endanger someone like a neighbor (penetrate their home) if you were to miss.
Out in the way open spaces, why not. |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
If you got all you need, I'd be all for it. Even just to play around with every once in a while.

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
if someone is shooting at you with a deer(?) rifle
reply with a few rounds of .50 cal if there's a bunch of thugs threatening you from afar in a vehicle put a few rounds into the vehicle, let'em run home BIG GUN gets BIG RESPECT if you can afford it, buy it, NOW and buy as much ammo as you can, regardless of price imho |

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
Gold is money.
If you want a fifty, spend whatever it takes to own one. Better get some spares, and a nice selection of brass, dies, etc. |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
You better be a serious reloader....and even then it is crazy expensive.
Unless you need to shoot out past 800 - 1000 yards.....a 308/30-06 and up will get the job done. Or shooting vehicles, etc... I have a crap load of fun guns...but never had an interest in 50 cal. There are very few ranges where you can really use them....unless you live way oit in the sticks...and shoot on your farm/ranch. Like I said....308, 30-06, 300 win mag, 338......tough to beat a nice 30 cal sniper rifle with a bipod a good scope and some experience. |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
We are going to need people with some heavy artillery if you know what I mean....

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
All fine and well until Holder/Obama changes their status to "DD" or "Destructive Device" which would render them class 3 and would require a federal tax stamp of $200, transfer fees everytime the gun changed hands and full compliance on the owner's part...
Not registering after the grace period would be akin to owning an unregistered machinegun.... Just sayin'.... |

Marlboro: You know, that gun costs about two dollars every time you fire it. That's two bucks a bullet. Harley Davidson: Well how many'd I hit? Marlboro: You spent twelve dollars and didn't hit a goddamn thing. I nailed one and it cost about four and a quarter. |

Your thread got me to looking for the .50 cal manual I brought home with me from the service. I carried it with me constantly to make sure I remembered headspace and timing settings. We used them on M109A1's. Devastating! I'm going to keep looking for the manual. It's here someplace. |

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
I can't even begin to imagine what the results would be of nailing someone point blank with a .50 cal..... Oh wait.... Yes I can.... Nothing left but a pair of shoes and some splatter on your lawn.

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
Personally - I think its overkill brother...They make mortars, LAW's RPG's, Javelins and such for takin' out vehicles...

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
A 50BMG is essentially a toy.
Its power isn't necessary at shorter ranges, and anything that would be attacking you from its longer ranges isn't really a threat that a single man with light arms can respond to anyway. I'm not arguing with your right to buy one if you want it, but this is not the year to be buying guns that have no practical use. Pistols and pistol-caliber carbines with threaded barrels is what I'd want. Legal to buy in most states, and they have "interesting" DIY possibilities that will occur to one in a darker future. -end- |

Hey, you only live once. Life is short, play hard. Go for it...

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
I would do the same exact thing if I wanted a .50 cal rifle. I mean, I bought gold and silver to be able to trade it or cash it in to get something I wanted or needed which for me is a house and/or land way down the road. That being said, I THINK IT MAKES COMPLETE SENSE TO TRADE ONE HEAVY ASS METAL FOR ANOTHER! Think about it, a hundred dollars (2 GAES) for a rifle of that magnitude......to me thats a no brainer.

I agree with Ru....... If you want this for a "Bogey Killer" .308 and 30-06 are more than enough to get the job the done so it really would not be pratical.......... actually its more counter productive.(Great risk of collateral damage) BUT AT THE SAME TIME. If everything else is pretty much squared up I cant fault you for wanting to have ONE BIG NASTY @$$ TOY. Either way, I envy the hell out of you right now:36_1_28: |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
Do it. You had better remember that unless you picked your ammo up over a year ago or have a good source your entering a whole new price range.
They are addicting but at the same time I highly recommend everyone that can afford a .50 should buy now! |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
If I were to invest FRN's or PM's into buying what is probably the original gunner/asst gunner fired "shock and awe" tactical weapon, I would look at the potential for investment gain first. I remember firing Tommy's that belonged to my dad's friends back in the very early sixties(another awesome forgotten handheld weapon), the weapons that were supposed to be incapable of firing auto....those weapons eventually sold for small fortunes. There's still a few out there. I doubt anyone making this kind of investment could not afford the ammo. Even if it is auto capable. Another positive side of the coin in owning a weapon with such capability is....
Not all future warfare is going to be fought urban. There's a whole lot of open countryside in the U.S. right now and that is where alot of it will be fought tactically, IMO. I would do it if I had the chance, Argent. I'm still looking for that damn manual!:s1: |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
AD I was just asking myself before I saw this post, "why doesn't AD own a 50 cal rifle yet?"
I say do it, you can always get more gold, you may never be able to get a 50 cal rifle down the road though. So when this country falls apart are you ready to be the "warlord" of your county? You will sure in the hell have the firepower. |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
No. Imho, very limited utility. Why give up the gold? The way things are going, a free Ma Duece may become available in the near future. :fan:
Take care, Mod1 |
Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
If you say you need something, I could debate or argue the point all day.
If you say you want something, case closed! Nothing to say but, enjoy! Isn't that what life is all about...doing what you want to do? |

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
If you have the three gun category already covered with plenty of spare parts and ammo, night vision should be at the top of your priority list. YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE an engagement against an opponent who has NV capabilities if you do not. The only effective counter to NV is to have it yourself, then you have a chance to prevail. Trust me on this!

Re: Sell off some GOLD to buy a 50-cal ???
A 50 cal is a big gun to be lugging around, I doubt your fantasy scenarios will ever come to pass. If you want to stop a 50, just set create a sandbag barrier with more than 16 inches thick of sand. Some military vehicles set them up in vehicle for protection.
